The story of the fireplace girl….. Hi, my name is Nadine. I was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There isn’t much exciting about my life. I did play basketball as a young gal, living in St. Louis Park, which is a suburb of The Twin Cities. Unknowing to me at the time, I played H*O*R*S*E and “Around the World”, against an up and coming NBA star, Jim Petersen. This is quite laughable, because, I’m 4’10”, now. I don’t know if he’d admit to it, but I did beat him, because I had talent!

Now, to how I became the fireplace girl. I will give you the watered down version, because the absolute truth is ugly! When I was about 17, I was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. Not that I was the obsessive type, but really loved the team. I had aspirations of becoming an interior designer, because my mom was one, and I admired her work.

In the room I had imagined, there was a retractable roof (yeah, I thought of that in the late ‘70’s, I guess that’s the “007 James Bond” influence). The room was “L” shaped, and the walls were dove gray. On one wall, there was a large, “black picture”, which now I know as a Plasma HD TV. In my mind I saw and felt this luxurious, white leather sectional couch, which is heaven to sit on! The room has a wall with a fireplace. The hearth of the fireplace was made of exquisite dark blue granite, which I have yet to see in the here and now. I couldn’t imagine gas logs, or wood in the fireplace, because the room is too clean and classic……
I had to take a break. I was making brownies. To my dismay, I had left the Pyrex pan in the oven to pre-heat with the oven. I took the Pyrex pan out of the oven, placed it on the counter, where there was just a drop of water, and …....KA BOOM, it exploded. Oh, but eureka! The sun shone through, and cast light refractions all over! At that time, I knew that is what the finishing touch to the fireplace was; however, blue glass would be a more appropriate color to represent America’s team. Pyrex only came in clear, back in the day.

Decades later, I’m working with a gentleman that shows me this new accessory for the fireplace. Oh my god, it was blue glass in a beautiful cast marble fireplace. I cried. With joy, hope and contentment, which are what, a mesmerizing fire can bring. I have a big heart and that’s what I give that with each customer. I have the privilege to meet. You have a piece of my heart, even if you choose to use gas logs.

My father recently died of Alzheimer’s, and I contribute a portion of our profits to that organization. Alzheimer’s is hard and hurts to deal with.
